Precis: In Hulot's article "The Magnetic Field of Planet Earth" the author implies that earths magnetic field is the most documented of magnetic fields. Hulot backs up the claim by providing mass amounts of evidence and reports of how magnetic field charts are important for navigation and the recent abilities to further observe the field from space. The author's purpose is to inform people about some of the general properties and facts scientists know about the field. The intended audience for this article is the general public as it is an easier article to read.

PRECIS: In Ulrich Christensen's article "Geodynamo Models: Tools for Understanding Properties of Earths Magnetic Field" the author asserts the importance of using models of the dynamo process to understand properties of the geomagnetic field. The author gives multiple examples of why these models should be used to understand certain properties of the field as well as to prove concepts of convection. The author's purpose is to explain how some models of an aspect can help prove something else of similarity. Christensen's audience is intended for those who wish to learn more about the magnetic field.

He provides many facts and lots of evidence to back up his claims about missions and future missions to space in order to view the field. The author's purpose is to let the public know about space viewings of the magnetic field in order to further knowledge the people who are unaware. The audience is again going to be the scientific world and others interested.

The author backs the claim up by providing evidence from studies that have been performed over the past couple of decades. The authors importance is to inform an audience, whoever it may be, about some characteristics of the magnetic field in order to educate others on the topic. The authors audience is mainly the scientific world but also people who are interested in science related topics.
